ten great breakfasts

October 8, 2010

The weekend is upon us and by george, if my recent big weekend breakfast gave me anything more than an immensely satisfied belly, it was the reminder that breakfast as an event is awesome. Sometimes breakfast has to be quick and accessible, but if you have a little more time on your hands at the weekend, then I’ve learned that easing into breakfast is a true joy. Taking the time to brew some coffee, make some tea, or pour some juice is part of that process. So is putting on some lovely music, or maybe the radio.

So, what are you in the mood for?

Maybe some arepas with cheese and corn tickles your fancy. That would be a great choice. You might even make some simple guacamole to go with them.

Got more of a sweet tooth? Banana Bread would be an excellent decision. Quick, easy and low maintenance. Oh, and pretty tasty too (shake it up and try plantain and macadamia nut bread instead). Save me a slice, will ya?

If you’ve got more time on your hands then you might want to make a batch of homemade granola or muesli. They’re adaptable, fresh, and great to store in batches.

Oh! Can’t forget eggs. You’re probably wondering why I’m hating on eggs. I’m not, I promise. Here, try the southwest breakfast hash or maybe have some pan-fried thyme potatoes with baked eggs and truffle oil. Just like I did the other weekend. I can promise you won’t be sad you did.

Or, maybe you want to celebrate the fact that the leaves are turning all kinds of gorgeous colours. Autumn is here. How about some pumpkin spice or cinnamon pancakes? You win.

And number ten? You’ll have to wait. I’m working on the most epic full english breakfast and this list (and this blog!) would be just plain wrong without it.
