My Berlin Kitchen Giveaway: Paperback Edition!

August 27, 2013

My Berlin Kitchen

Thank you all for the lovely comments about my impending move across the pond. It was so nice to receive such warm support about our decision and many of you made me even more excited to start living in London!

You may remember that last year I gave away a copy of the lovely Luisa Weiss’ book, My Berlin Kitchen. Well, that giveaway was so popular that when her publisher contacted me about giving away a copy of the book in its gorgeous new paperback format, I said yes immediately. I also said yes because Luisa’s story, which has involved moving back and forth between America and Europe several times feels very apt as I prepare to make my own big leap back to the familiar-yet-unfamiliar. This giveaway is a little way of celebrating new adventures, leaps of faith, and change.

Congratulations, Kate! Your comment was randomly selected (using random.org) from all the entries! I’ll be in touch to get your address! Thanks to everyone who entered and made me feel equal parts hungry and wanderlust-y. Kate’s comment was as follows:

Italy. Pizza, pasta, prosciutto…the list of wonderful foods I could taste there is endless.

If you’d like to enter to win a copy of My Berlin Kitchen in paperback, please leave a comment below telling me where in the world you would most like to visit for its food – and why.

For an additional entry you can tweet about the giveaway (e.g. “I’d love to win a copy of My Berlin Kitchen by @wednesdaychef from @AngharadGuy! http://bit.ly/19IkO3p″). Leave an additional comment here telling me you posted it on twitter.

This giveaway is only open to U.S. residents and will close this Friday, August 30 at 10pm CST. Photo from Luisa’s wonderful blog, The Wednesday Chef.

If you don’t win then you can always buy yourself a copy – the paperback edition comes out today. Good luck!

I would most like to visit London…because one of my best friends will be moving there shortly. :(. Also…I’m obsessed with fish and chips, so I think it’s fitting.

Choosing just one place is hard, France for dessert, Italy, Greece and Spain for the entrees. Oh yum!

Germany – my husband has been longing to go to relive the dishes his grandmother prepared for him as a boy. I always seem to choose our travel adventures, so next it should be his turn (plus the country is gorgeous…and I want to go to Christmas markets!)

First off I want to send you my well wishes for your upcoming move across the pond! I lived in London off and on for 7 years, have stepchildren now grown up over there. Absolutely love it and when my husband passed away I thought it would be great to live there but ended up staying in the states.

As one of my favorite foods is Thai, I would love to visit Thailand and get the real deal!
Thanks for the great giveaway.

Sri Lanka for food. Just been to a wedding where the brides parents were from Sri Lanka and all the wedding food, deserts, drinks and canapés were Sri Lankan. Best spinach and lentil dahl I have ever had. Plus shredded cabbage with coconut- divine.

That is a tough choice! I think right now my choice would be India – I can’t get enough of all their amazing spices, plus much of their food is very gluten free friendly.

A few years ago I spent several wonderful months in Berlin! I would so love to return to the city and its food, from bratwurst on the street to the “secret chef” dinners in private homes. I am looking forward to this book, and hope I can win it!!! Thanks for the chance!

I should add that my reasoning is based on my discovery and love of bibimbap. I even got a children’s book about bibimbop for Anya http://www.amazon.com/Bee-Bim-Bop-Linda-Sue-Park/dp/0547076711

This isn’t very original – but I just can’t get over the food in Italy. Every time I’ve been my mind has been blown. And it is not just the preparations, but rather, the raw ingredients. The fresh mozzarella and prosciutto and on and on – you can’t get products in the US like you get in Italy. I read once this is because all the best products tend to come from smaller farms who simply don’t produce enough food to ship abroad. So it would still be my top food destination even though I’ve been before. As much as I’d love to try the foods of some other places – particularly the Middle East – I know if I was pressed to pick on the spot it would always come down to Italy!

I would like to visit Europe because I have read so much on how diverse the foods there.France for its croisants and coffee, Italy for the Pasta and Pizza , Spain for the paella, choriz and ste , Germany for the sausages , Ireland for the beer, Netherlands for the Herring and preserve fish, Switzeland for the potato dish , England for pies. I also heard that you can go to these places by train which I think very convenient and cheap. This has been my dream- to travel in these places with my family and explore every nooks and cranes and taste the food that I only read in the books. I also want to document the experience and take millions of photos.

Honestly would be so happy to cross the pond back to my native Sussex for a great curry and pub lunch with my family. A trip to Bologna would be nice too ….
