mediterranean feast

Hello jelly beans!

I had the most amazing weekend away. I can’t believe it’s over! I am still completely in vacation mode. There I was on Sunday night eating my tofu stir fry at 10pm and swigging a beer when I realised, Oh yeah. I have to work tomorrow. Less than impressed.

We spent the weekend at our friend’s cabin in Ashland, Wisconsin right on Lake Superior. Here’s the view from the cabin deck:

This place holds a really special place in my heart since when I first moved here permanently three years ago the boy and I hot-footed it up here my very first weekend (and first day, actually) to escape and be alone. We hadn’t seen each other for 10 months! Crazy town.

This weekend we raspberry picked…

We built fires…

Okay, actually boys built fires. I watched and drank beer…

And we ate food that I did not photograph. Oops. Grilled salmon, grilled asparagus, roasted potatoes, salads, fresh bagels, chocolate hearts, local ice cream that we picked up from the dairy farm, blueberry buckwheat pancakes. Oh be still my heart! Yum.

And today we were in no mood to cook nor was I in any mood to try any of the amazing ideas I listed last week. Nope. Tonight was a night for falafel and pita bread:

homemade garlicky hummus:

giant greek salads:

and new-to-me beer that I know my girl in madison is going to go bananas when she sees:

What was the food highlight of your weekend?
